Overview
Project Turnaround is a unique wraparound center for Bostonians returning home from incarceration. Founded in 2020 by formerly incarcerated advocate Romilda P. Pereira, the center functions to bring together traditionally siloed reentry and social services in a holistic “one-stop” model. Crafted from Ms. Pereira’s lived experience as well as her years serving as a case manager and reentry advocate, Project Turnaround focuses on providing pathways for successful reentry.
When people return home after incarceration, they are often open and ready to get their life on a healthy path. However, all too often, they are faced with a maze of agencies and programs that are hard to navigate, even with support. Project Turnaround acts as a clearinghouse for those resources, and a central hub for the people most in need. Every participant is paired with a case manager and mentor that help him or her navigate systems from getting into supportive housing to job training to trauma interventions.
As a program that has its origins in the very community it serves, Project Turnaround uses a community feedback loop to ensure that all programs and resources are vetted, provide growth and opportunity to participants, and creates pathways for successful reentry. The continuum of care that is provided ensures that no participants are left behind: street outreach, violence interruption, case management, counseling, education, housing, and support services. Project Turnaround functions as a center where community change comes from community connection.
MISSION STATEMENT
Project Turnaround is devoted to helping Boston youth access the services and holistic care necessary to achieve their potential. Project Turnaround recognizes that many of Boston’s youth have suffered the impact of generational trauma, mass criminalization, and poverty. We believe that by tailoring interventions to youth in their own communities, we can help transform all of Boston’s neighborhoods into thriving and supportive communities.
VISION STATEMENT
Project Turnaround is a unique wraparound center for young Bostonians that are most vulnerable to mass incarceration. Founded in 2020 by formerly incarcerated advocate Romilda Pereira, the center functions to bring together traditionally siloed community and social services in a holistic “one-stop” model. Crafted from Ms. Pereira’s lived experience as well as her years serving as a case manager and reentry advocate, Project Turnaround focuses on providing pathways for youth with risk factors and those returning home. Project Turnaround proactively steps in to meet these youth.
All too often, Boston’s youth that have been marginalized and criminalized face a maze of agencies and programs that are hard to navigate, even with support. Project Turnaround acts as a clearinghouse for those resources, and a central hub for our youth most in need.
